Installing VMware vSphere 5 Update Manager

In my last post I have showed how to install VMware vSphere 5.0, VMware vCenter Server 5.0. Now I am going to cover how to install VMware vSphere Update Manager. Vmware vSphere Update Manger does not supports VM patching (Windows/Linux). In Update Manager 5.0, you can upgrade ESX/ESXi 4.x hostes to ESXi 5.0 only. Upgrades from ESX/ESXi 3.x to either ESX/ESXi 4.x or ESXi 5.0 are not supported. For VM patching need to use Microsoft WSUS server or system center.

How to Install VMware vCenter Server 5.0 Step by Step
So lets get started,
Insert your VMware vCenter Server DVD & double click on "autorun.exe". Select Vmware vSphere update manager & click on install.
 Click OK to continue,
 Click Next.
 Accept VMware Patent Agreement to Continue,
 Accept VMware license Agreement & click next.
 As discussed earlier, In Update Manager 5.0, you can upgrade ESX/ESXi 4.x hostes to ESXi 5.0 only. Upgrades from ESX/ESXi 3.x to either ESX/ESXi 4.x or ESXi 5.0 are not supported. Select Download updates & click Next.
 Enter your VMware vCenter Server details such as IP address/Name & Login Credentials & Click "Next".
 In My case I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, so select it & click to continue. If you are going to use dedicated SQL server specify your SQL DSN name & continue.
 Click Next to continue.
 Click Next.
 Click "Install" to start the Installation of the VMware update Manager.
 Click finish to complete the installation.
Login to the Vmware vCenter Server with the vSphere client and click "Plug-ins" and then "Manage Plug-ins.." You will now see a new available plug-in named "VMware vSphere Update Manager". Click Download & Install. 

 Click OK to start the Vmware vSphere Update Manager Client setup.
 Click Next.
 Accept VMware License agreement & click Next.
 Click on Install tab 
 Click on Finnish to complete the Installation.
Login to the Vmware vCenter Server with the vSphere client and click "Plug-ins" and then "Manage Plug-ins.." You will now see a "VMware vSphere Update Manager" enabled. 
 On VMware vCenter Server home page you will see a Update Manger tab.
