How to Install Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2010

Today I am going to cover step by step Microsoft DPM 2010 installation ,


System requirements-
Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2
1..NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) 
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package 
Windows PowerShell 2.0 
2.DPM 2010 must be installed on a Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit computer that is located in an Active Directory domain that is running in 2003-mode or better. 
3.DPM 2010 can protect machines running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows Server 2003, 2003 R2, 2008 or 2008 R2, as well Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. 


DPM software requirements-
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1 (SP1)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable
Windows PowerShell 2.0
Windows Installer 4.5 
Windows Single Instance Store (SIS)
Microsoft Application Error Reporting
All above item are installed automatically during SMP installation.


My Setup -
1. corp.mytricks.in - Active Directory Server
2. DPM.mytricks.in  - DPM server with Local SQL Server, as in my test environment I dont have separate SQL server. But in production environment it is must.
So let get started,
DPM server installation is very easy & staright forward. If you have seapare SQl server you need specify the SQL Server name & instance name.


First install .Net 3.5 on your DPM server shown below. Open Server Manager & navigate to add feature & add Dot Net 3.5


Download Microsoft DPM 2010 from below location,
Launch DPM setup & select Install Data Protection Manager to install DPM,
 Accept Microsoft License Term & Continue 
 Setup will extract required files
 Click Next to continue,

 ignore below error, as I am using VMware Worksation 7 to host Microsoft DPM installation & SIS will be installed by DPM setup automatically. So click on next.

 Restart your DPM server & restart the setup once computer comes up..
 Now computer restarted. I have relaunched the DPM setup. Click on Next
 Enter your company details,
 Here I am using Local SQL, as I don't have separate SQL server. But its always recommended for Separate SQL server.
 Enter the password for newly created DPM local user




Now click close to complete the setup. Now your DPM server is ready.


On desktop you will see two icons one for DPM administrators console and for DPM Management Shell.
