And as with all moves to capture the tech industry’s attention, timing is everything. There is huge difference in Windows developer preview and Customer preview. As per Micrososft they have changed more than 100,000 lines of code for Customer preview.

As with any pre-release software, Microsoft cautions that users may encounter bugs and incompatibilities. Recommended specs, as provided by Steven Sinofsky, Microsoft's President of Windows and Windows Live, are as follows:1 GHz or faster processor

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

If you get error message like "Vmware Workstation 8 Windows Cannot Read the settings from the unattend answer file" then refer below guide to resolve it.. Just need to remove Floppy Drive from the Windows 8 Virtual machine settings.

Windows 8 Customer Preview HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED



While installing the recently released Windows 8 Customer Preview in VMware ESX Server 5.0, I got the error message HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED. The error message suggested me to restart the PC and try again. I did so but still faced the problem. 
Detailed error message was,

Your Computer ran into a problem and needs to restart.

It's collecting error info and will restart in: 0 seconds


The same issue I faced with Windows 8 developer preview, still its not working with VMware ESX server.. So resolution for above error is to wait for latest release of VMware ESX server OR install Windows 8 customer preview on VMware Workstation 8 or VirtualBox 4.1.8

Select “Create new hard disk” and make sure “Start-up Disk” is checked

select the native “VDI” format for VirtualBox

Select “Dynamically allocated” option & click next

Give it enough hard drive space for your own needs,

Create the new Virtual Disk. 

And Go ahead power on the new VM.

Click “next”

Specify ISO location & Click “next”

Click on Start to power On the VM.
